FULL SCORECARD HERE

Despite a third hundred at Vernon Carus by a Fylde player in three years, the first team went down by 12 runs in a close game at Factory Lane.

Vernons won the toss and elected to bat on a firm April wicket. Martin Finch (2-80) and Paul Hague (1-57) bowled miserly opening spells as Vernons were kept to under 2 runs an over during the first 10 overs. Despite a few boundaries coming on a quick outfield, Fylde still remained on top and Hague in his second spell had the prolific Ian Dunn trapped LBW for 36. At the other end, Tom Bailey was compiling a solid innings as new batsman Chapman also found the boundary regularly. The lid was kept on the scoring rate by the introduction of spin in the form of Messrs Mckenzie (0-36) and Moore (0-38) until they too went for runs. Bailey reached his 100 and began to take more chances, with a couple of sharp chances missed by Fylde. With this the run rate increased with a score of 250+ looking more and more likely, prompting captain Watkinson to reintroduce the opening bowlers. Finch responded with two wickets in two balls, first inducing a fine edge from Bailey (132) then clean bowling Ash first ball. However, boundaries still kept on coming right to the end of the innings with the final score 261-3.

The Fylde response began well with Moore and Willis looking comfortable at the crease, and the scoreboard looking good at 60-0 off the first 10 overs. Willis offered a simple chance to long off which was put down, before completing his 50 in quick time, however shortly after a miscued shot went to a fielder and this time the chance was taken. This then brought the returning Darren Mckenzie to the crease and he was aggressive from the off, as the board continued to tick along nicely. The partnership was the second century stand of the innings, and featured several MAXIMUMS, with much time spent looking for the dispatched balls. Having reached 58 in 40 balls, Mckenzie failed to get hold of a lofted drive and was caught at long off. The rate required at this stage was around 7 per over, but with a new batsman at the crease this would prove difficult. Experienced duo of Potter and McCutcheon were brought on for Vernons to close out the game with skipper Watkinson returning a catch to Potter for 1. With these wickets, the scoring rate slowed and debutant Dave Crawforth was next to go for 2, followed shortly after by Dan Candlish. 40 runs were required off 4 overs, and Finch appeared to offer the last hope of victory. Moore completed a chanceless maiden Palace Shield century but when Finch was dismissed for 0, Fylde's victory chances appeared to be slim. With 16 required from the last 4 balls, Danny Smith and Paul Hague then fell in successive balls to wrap up victory for Vernons. Potter had a chance of a hatrick, but Lloyd Jones survived a close LBW appeal before finishing the game with a boundary to leave Fylde 13 short of the target and Moore unbeaten on 115.

A great game of cricket, which despite the result will give the 1st team plenty of encouragement for the rest of the season.

2ND TEAM REPORT

Fylde CC 2nd XI - 183-8 (C Boyes 74)
Vernon Carus 2nd XI - 174-8
FYLDE WON BY 9 RUNS

FULL SCORECARD HERE

Fylde's second team continued to impress after promotion last season, with a well fought victory over Vernon's second string.

Fylde batted first with Chris Boyes producing the standout batting performance with 74, combined with valuable contributions through the order from the Mcmillans, Chris Williams and Phil Taylor to finish on a very decent 183-8 on what was still a slow Moorland Road outfield.

Fylde then produced another fine team effort with the ball with wickets shared between the four pronged attack of Tom Duerden, Ellison, Maclaren and Joe Mcmillan, with Vernons eventually finishing 10 runs short.

3RD TEAM REPORT

Fylde CC 3rd XI - 94ao (R.Galligan 31)
Torrisholme 2nd XI - 96-3
FYLDE LOST BY 7 WICKETS

FULL SCORECARD HERE

An inexperienced third team started with defeat to a strong Torrisholme 2nd team.

Fylde batted first and found runs hard to come by with only four batsmen reaching double figures, the most valuable contribution coming from captain Richard Galligan (31). Fylde finished with 94 all out from 28 overs.

Defending a low total, Fylde managed a couple of early wickets with one a piece for Neil Cross and Sean Crosbie before a partnership from visting batsmen Cottam and Woods put the game beyond Fylde, eventually knocking the runs off within 20 overs.

So a losing start for the 3rds, but Torrisholme were one of the sides relegated last season so probably will be strong contenders to go back up so the third team should be upbeat going into next week's trip to play Thornton 4ths.

SUNDAY TEAM REPORT

Fylde's trip to Longridge had to be cancelled owing to Fylde unfortunately not being able to raise a team. It is hoped an alternative date could be found to get the fixtured played on.
