SCORECARD HERE
Fylde moved to within 8 points of the top of the table with
victory over local rivals Great Eccleston at Moorland Road.
Great Eccleston batted first on another excellent wicket but as
in previous weeks, an early breakthrough was not forthcoming with
the openers keeping the scoreboard ticking along in the first ten
overs. Kalim Umerji was looking well set before being dropped by
Darren Mckenzie, but this seemed to change his mentality as he
attacked each of the next 5 balls before spooning one up to Keith
Moore at cover. This brought dangerman Nadeem to the crease but his
stay was a short one as Paul Hague induced a leading edge and was
caught by a sprawling Paul Willis at midwicket.
The scoreboard slowed for a while with new batsman Yeomans
finding his feet and opener Whittle scoring slowly at the other end.
Yeomans then played some expansive shots and at drinks the board
read 100-2 with a high score looking likely. Danny Smith then came
on to bowl and was soon amongst the wickets, removing Whittle and
numbers 5 and 6 in quick time to expose the tail. Meanwhile, Yeomans
went past 50 courtesy of a drop by Keith Moore and he then tucked
into the bowling of Hague, launching several sixes into the houses
before skying one which Sam Mackenzie caught well.
Boundaries were kept to a minimum in the closing overs as Smith,
Finch and Hague bowled with good control as Great Eccleston finished
on 207-9, which did seem a little short of what would be required on
a lifeless pitch.
In reply, Jim Proctor continued his good form for Great Eccleston
producing plenty of swing and seam movement mixed with steepling
bounce to make scoring at the road end difficult. Keith Moore
punished the other opening bowler for 15 off his first over before
Willis got an unplayable ball from Proctor and gloved the ball to
slip. Darren Mckenzie received a similarly difficult ball and he too
could only glove the ball to gully to leave Fylde struggling at
20-2. Keith Moore soon followed, chipping one to mid off, bringing
Mike Watkinson and Dave Crawforth together in what would prove to be
a match winning partnership.
The two consolidated for a few overs before the openers were
taken off and the change bowlers produced some loose bowling which
was punished by the batsman, particularly savagely by Crawforth who
struck several maximums including some huge hits into the compound
and Hodgson field. The win was seemingly in the bag for Fylde before
Watkinson was caught and bowled two short of 50, followed closely by
Dan Candlish, Mackenzie and Dave Crawforth for an excellent 92, to leave Fylde in trouble at 7 down with
still 30 to score. Enter Danny Smith and Martin Finch who struck the
ball cleanly to the boundary to see the team over the line with 4
overs to spare, Smith finishing on 12 and Finch 18.
An excellent win for Fylde moving the team to joint 5th but only
8 points off top.

Fylde 2nd XI - 99ao (W.Norris 47)
FYLDE LOST BY 141 RUNS

SCORECARD HERE
The second team's unbeaten record was brought to an abrupt end
with a heavy defeat at Torrisholme.
Torrisholme batted first and racked up 240 with former Northern
League player Grahame Clarke the chief destroyer with 62 in double
quick time including 5 sixes. Fylde did well to pull things back
courtesy of a late rally of wickets with Chris Boyes picking up a 5
wicket haul.
The Fylde reply never got going as wickets fell regularly, with
only Will Norris (46) making any impression on the scoreboard. Fylde
were eventually bundled out for 99 in 33 overs and will be looking
to bounce back immediately by beating Hoghton next week.

CUP FIXTURES - SUNDAY
The first team progressed to the first round proper of the Meyler
Cup with a 3 wicket win over New Longton. Lloyd Jones was the pick
of the Fylde bowlers with 3 wickets as New Longton were restricted
to 150 from their 40 overs. The Fylde reply was not as easy as it
might have been as only Luke Williams, batting at 5, able to get in
and make a telling contribution. Wickets continued to fall before
Martin Finch (40) knocked off the remaining required runs in quick
time to complete the victory.
Elsewhere, the third team were knocked out at the first stage of
the Crabtree Cup after a narrow defeat to Croston 2nd team. Croston
posted 160, the highlight of the innings being the bowling of 12
year old Tom Morrison, who picked up a hat-trick in his 3-24,
a truly fantastic achievement. Unfortunately, Fylde fell just short
in the run chase, bowled out 7 short of the target.
